Creating spikes (I

Im sure there are tutorials like this one already out there, but a friend of mine asked me how to do those "amazing" spikes when he saw one of my pieces. I didnt use a tut making them, but I was inspired by some of "miseries" artworks. Well making spikes is quite easy, just follow the steps below.

1, Start of by creating your image. The size really doesnt matter, I used 400x200 to fit in here

2, Once you have got your workspace, make a rectangular selection, just like the shape below.

3. Create a gradient, going from Light to dark and from dark to light again. (Further down you will see another possibility). Press ok, and using the shift key, make an horizontal straight line across your selection. (on a new layer of course)

4, Now press CTRL+T , or (Edit > Free Transform), and while holding, ALT+Shift+Control pressed (yes all three) move the top left point to the middle. (you should see the top right corner moving to the middle as well. Once they both meet and form a cone you''re done.

So far so good...there is your spike. If you want to add effects to make it looks even better, i made two examples below, the wave and the glass effect.
