Applying text styles in PhotoShop

Making text look diffrent is very simple in PhotoShop.

Most people do know how to do this, but still I often get asked, how this works, so here it is.

PhotoShop allows the users to add a variety of effects to a text, and include more than one effect at the same time to the text, which can give very interesting effects.

1,First of all create a new window with the dimensions 250x50 and background White.
(File > New)

2, Add a textbox into the newly created layer, by pressing the Type Tool or the key T.

3, Enter some text into that textbox, I used Nexflo as its my nick. Highlight the textbox, and change the font type to Verdana, 30 pixels big. This should give you a nice example to test with.

Adding effects to the newly created text item

Make sure you have selected your text layer, then open the Layer style window.
(Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow...)
This should open a new options window, which controls your Shadow parameteres. If you look at your text, you will see that it will have a shadow. By changing the sliders of Distance, Spread and size, you can modify the look of the shadow, play around a bit, till u get a result which satisfies you.

Adding a 3D effect to the text
Open up the Layer style window again, if its not already open. Now select Bevel&Emboss from the left hand side menue.

This menue provides quite a lot of options; youwill need to play around with it, to get the right feel of it. Set the depth to 150%, the size to 2px and soften to 0.
You should get a 3D text now, similar to teh one below.

Other options

There are loads of other options in this menue. The best way to get used to them, is by simply playing around with them.
